Our main interest is focused on the physics of condensation and crystallization of particles and thin films from the vapour phase on surfaces. Nucleation and growth of small particles is analyzed to obtain more insight into adatom diffusion and aggregation, in particular with regard to phase formation of alloys. In addition, gaseous reactions on such particles are studied as model experiments for catalysis. Growth of thin films of metals and alloys is investigated with emphasis on practical applications in optics, electronics, and magnetism.
