IntroductionFunctional micro- and nanostructures are essential to the development of novel and innovative technologies. The University of Hamburg is one of the leading international centers in micro- and nanostructure research. In six courses you will get a compact insight into the theoretical principles, experimental methods, simulation of real structures, and topical areas of micro- and nanostructure research. The lectures will be complemented by laboratory visits and computer exercises. Invited internationally recognized scientists will present their research and discuss current topics with you. You can present your own research results in a poster session and discuss them with Ph. D. students from the University of Hamburg. Two excursions to the Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) and a company will complement the scientific program. This summer school particularly addresses advanced students with a Bachelor's degree, Vordiplom, or equivalent, Diplom candidates and Master's students.The summer school will take place in the city center of Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city. The cultural program includes a sightseeing tour and a harbor tour as well as a day trip to the old Hanseatic city of Lüneburg. Application deadline: 30 April 2010.
